Since I know nothing about attracting Orioles, the entire build is an experiment. If you think it would be interesting to others, please share this guide with plans that teach you how to build oriole feeders on Facebook and Twitter. In this video I experiment making an Oriole Feeder. We hope you have enjoyed reading and found some ideas to improve your yard and bring wildlife to your garden. These feeders will help you see if you have any orioles nearby and if it’s worth trying one of the more complex or expensive projects. We recommend starting with the Easy Oriole Feeder or the Premeditated Leftovers Feeder because you probably already have an old hanger in a closet you can use to get your birdfeeder up and running in a few minutes. Bright colors, especially orange, will attract the birds quicker, so you don’t need to wait as long. Fruit or fruit-based jelly will appeal to the oriole’s sweet tooth, and they will have a hard time resisting a visit to your yard. When trying to attract orioles to your yard, the most important thing is to provide a feeding space that’s high enough off the ground the birds won’t be in danger from cats and other animals while it feeds. Wrap the bottom of the wire into a loop that is slightly smaller than the size of your terra cotta saucer. Carefully place outside and load with all the stuff orioles love, like oranges and jelly. Avoid using red food coloring or honey, as they can be harmful to birds. Boil the water to remove impurities, then let it cool before filling your oriole nectar feeder. You can prepare a simple nectar solution by mixing 1 part white granulated sugar with 4 parts water. You could likely use some scrap boards and cut them down to size, as the dimensions for the plan are small. Nectar: Orioles are attracted to sweet nectar. It is up to you to decide the correct length of the wire that will hang the deli cup into the Poole., Once you have the desired size, cut the other end of the wire and bend over a bit of hook that will hang the new feeder into the Poole. With some woodworking skills and power tools, you can whip up one of these homemade oriole feeders. This part of the baling wire will be used in hanging the deli cup to the feeder Poole. The next step is to bend the other side of the wire up. Make sure that it is snug fit when inserted into the baling wire. Put the deli cup again and check if it is loose or not. Cut the extra wires left when locking and securing the circular part of the baling wire. Make sure that the length of the circular wire is enough to carry the deli cup once it is inserted. Once you have the size, use the pliers to secure and tighten the rounder barb wire. Make sure to measure the size at the upper portion of the cup. You can then make a rounded circle through the wire with just enough size to carry the deli cup. The next step is to take the baling wire and wrap it around the other end to measure the size of the deli cup. You can use a 3/32 drill bit, but a ⅛ drill bit can also work the same. This action aims to allow the water to go through if it rains a little bit in your area. The first step is to drill some small holes at the bottom of the deli cup. Use safety glasses and gloves for your protection. You can use other cups as well, but the deli cup is what we use because I feel that it easily fits the foods we offer to the birds.īefore starting the overall process, make sure to prioritize your safety during the making process. This method should probably be the cheapest feeder you can make as the main materials are readily available in your home. Method #2: Making a DIY Oriole Feeder Using Deli Cup and Baling Wire You can put different foods into the feeder but make sure to put foods that the oriole likes to have a greater chance of attracting these birds. You can use different types of cups if you want, but you need to make sure to have several end caps attached to each cup for easy replacement. With a loose-fitting, it can be easily cleaned or changed if you want to, making it easy to maintain or clean all the time. The next step is to put the teacup with the end cap to the PVC pipe. Take some time to let them dry before continuing the process. Then, attach the end plug at the back of the saucer using the glue and, of course, the caulking gun. Get the teacup and the saucer and use the adhesive to stick them both. Please be reminded that these parts should be loose fit to the PVC pipe for safety and comfort purposes. Also, you may find the end cap hard to fit if it is still new, so before the installation, use the bastard file to make it fit perfectly. Making some simple twisting motion can make the couple and the bushing tight into the pipe. Please note that you will not need any forms of glue to make it tighten. Then, you will need to install the coupler on top, followed by the bushing.
